Motorcycle riding can be challenging.  Not just in learning the controls and learning to maneuver the bike, but also in learning how to ride your bike in real life traffic.
 
Your experience and participation along with this information sheet will help you become a safer rider.
 
Reading and studying this course does not guarantee that you’ll be safe on the road.  Only you can determine how safe you want to be by following certain risk guidelines that you feel comfortable with as an individual.
 
Safe riding is largely dependent on your attitude.  And you can determine on what basis you’ll be riding your bike day in and day out.



Types of Motorcycles

Motorcycles have existed since the late 1800’s. There are 3 types of motorcycles; namely: (1) Street, (2) Dual-Purpose, and (3) Off-Road.
 
Street Bikes are for street & highway use. They are legal to ride on the street.

    1. Touring Bikes
 
    2. Cruisers
 
    3. Sport Bikes
 
    4. Standard Bikes
 
    5. Scooters

Dual-Purpose Bikes are designed for both the legal street use and off road use.

Off-Road Bikes are only meant to be used off road.  They are not street legal.  They do not have the necessary equipment, lights, license plates, and controls for proper street use.  Off-Road bikes are designed for competition and/or recreational purposes.

  1. Enduro (Recreational Trail Riding)
 
  2. Motocross ( Closed course competition bikes)
 
  3. Trials (Low speed skills competition)
