The C.Ti. custom knee brace is our flagship product.
Introduced in 1983, it remains the cornerstone of our
product line today. While the original C.Ti. has evolved
into the current C.Ti.2, the basic philosophy behind it
remains unchanged. Specifically, we still contend that a
static support system provided by a combination of a
rigid brace frame and non-elastic straps is superior to
the dynamic bracing solutions offered by most other
manufacturers. Even though today we offer a variety of
knee braces in addition to the C.Ti.2, this fundamental
principle is our foundation.
A rigid brace frame that captures the tibia is vital for
proper knee control. Non-rigid braces fail under
significant stress, increasing the risk of knee injury,
and braces that substitute soft tissue containment for
brace-to-bone contact often have increased problems with
migration. The C.Ti. knee brace captures the tibia,
providing the brace-to-bone contact needed to maintain
proper femoral-tibial alignment. Non-elastic strapping
is also essential. When combined with a rigid frame that
captures the tibia, the result is a static support
system. Dynamic support systems that use rubber or
elastic straps merely realign the knee joint after it
has begun to displace. Static support systems hold the
bones in proper alignment to help prevent displacement
altogether.
1992 marked the birth of the C.Ti.2 with Accutrac™
hinges. By analyzing natural eg motion, a patented 4-bar
linkage system was invented to more-accurately mimic
normal movement of the tibia without a brace. In
addition to the Accutrac™ hinge, C.Ti.2 has several
features that distinguish it from other custom braces.
Foremost among these is a Total Support System™ for
ligament, rotary and combined instabilities. The tibial
horseshoe of the frame cradles the tibial plateau,
resisting anterior translation and external rotation of
the tibia, while the frame's tibial member hugs the
tibial crest, also resisting anterior excursion.
Opposing resistance to the femur is provided by a
non-elastic upper cruciate strap. For medial-lateral
support, the rigid upper and lower lateral arms of the
frame, as well as the medial hinge, resist valgus
forces, while varus forces are controlled by the upper
and lower straps, as well as the lateral hinge. For
patients requiring additional PCL support, a PCL model
is available. This model features an extension on the
femoral horseshoe to provide posterior pressure on the
quadriceps. An anatomically-shaped Gastroc Force Plate
provides an opposing, anterior force to the tibia. Other
unique features include a custom measuring system that
captures 23 patient measurements, a truly custom frame
using no pre-fabricated parts, a limited lifetime
warranty on the frame and hinges, a 1-year fit
guarantee, and a custom paint program that is second to
none.
